Noodle Town
As we were heading to North Carolina last week Savannah asked if we were at G-Mama's yet. I told her that we had to go to Atlanta first, then Greenville, then Charlotte. She was quiet for about 30 seconds and asked if we were going through Noodle Town. I thought back about the conversation that she and I had just had and wondered what words sounded like noodle town. THEN, it dawned on me...Spaghetti Junction...we talked about it on our last trip to North Carolina...in March, that we were going under the overpasses from I-285 in Atlanta. I mentioned it to Jeff and he was amazed about two things: first, that she remembered it.; second, that I was able to figure out what she was talking about!
Savannah's Soccer Try-Outs
Ready, Set, Throw!
Dribbling Drills
Trying to kick to the girl's feet
Good form, Savannah!
Perfect Score!
Vince enjoyed being outside but was burning hot!

Neither Jeff nor I played any soccer as kids, but we believed that Savannah should play a season or two and see how she likes it. Today was the tryout day for Upward soccer. We aren't too familiar with the program other than they don't keep score and that everyone is a winner. Jeff and I are both competitive when it comes to sports, so this is a totally different philosophy for us! After her tryout today, we are thankful that "everyone is a winner". Savannah struggled with some of the fundamentals, but we are hopeful that with some practice she will prove to be an athlete.
The kids were graded from 1-4 (4 being the highest) on their skills: kicking the ball directly to a person, dribbling through some cones, speed, dribbling to a particular place and stopping the ball, and throwing the ball in-bounds. She scored 1s and 2s on all skills except for throwing the ball in: she received a 4 on that! Jeff said it perfectly "in a game where you aren't allowed to use your hands, that's what she does best in." I think she'll excel in t-ball and basketball!

Johnny Jump Up

Sarah and Laura Ann at Idlewild Park
Vince loves this doorway jumper that we received as a gift when Savannah was born. In our 7' doorway frames it's perfect for now, but it's as "high" as it can go. When he hits his next growth spurt, we'll have to move it to our higher door frame and be able to get a few more months of use out of it. The video is about 2 minutes long and I hope it doesn't make you too dizzy.
We all had a wonderful time in North Carolina-the kids stayed with Nana and Grandaddy for 5 days and I was able to do a good bit of shopping with G-Mama and have some R&R in Boone before heading back to Macon. We hit a big sale at the Boone Mall and Savannah has lots of back to school clothes for this year! Savannah had a wonderful time swimming in the pool at Nana's house (AKA hot tub) and she went on the boat with Grandaddy and the jet ski.
I am also posting a picture of my college roommate, Sarah. She and I met at orientation at Alabama and decided to room together. Come to find out, she was living in Waxhaw and graduated from Charlotte Latin...we had a great freshman year together! She and I lost touch over the years and ran into each other at a park in Charlotte last week...it was the craziest thing, and I was so excited to know that she is doing great! We hope to catch up again when we go back to Charlotte to visit.

Happy Birthday G-Mama!
Leigh Long and the kids and I went to lunch-she gets married in 2 weeks!
The kids and I travelled to North Carolina last Thursday and had an uneventful trip up. We made 3 stops on the 5 hour trip, but it wasn't too bad. We rolled into Charlotte just before rush hour, so that made it much better. We were able to visit with some of my friends from high school, see Gary and Lin, John, and his girlfriend, Beth. G-Mama's birthday was on the 21st, but we celebrated over at Gary's house on Sunday afternoon. The kids are staying with Nana and Grandaddy for several days. G-Mama and I are looking forward to hanging out and doing some shopping without two kids in tow!
