Strawberry Picking

Savannah and Vince enjoying the soft serve ice cream
Last Monday the kids and I went to Elliott Farms to pick some strawberries and enjoy homemade strawberry ice cream. Savannah went with her Pre-K class on April 15th and her picks were gone in no-time flat. In fact, the 3 lbs that we picked on Monday are already gone! I guess we'll be heading back on Monday for another round of picking after school.
Savannah's last day of school is May 22. So far, she has perfect attendance. We have been blessed with healthy kids. Jeff was one of those kids who missed one day in all his 12 years in school! Today is "Thinking Cap Day" where the kids can pay $1 to wear a hat. It's to celebrate the end of the CRCT tests that the students took over the past couple of weeks. The funds raised go to Relay For Life and Cancer Research. Next week is the Book Fair, and the Sonny Carter Field Day is on May 7th. School will be over before we know it!

Savannah is excited to attend Trinity Woods Summer Day Camp this year. It's an all outdoor camp where they build a fort, get to walk in the creek, play in a mud pit, and all sorts of outdoor games. She will take swim lessons from Julie Bragg the first two weeks of June and the kids and I are planning a trip to the Gulf to meet a friend from college and her kids.

"Camping" at FDR State Park

Savannah and Vince in front of our cabin
Family fun at the Wild Animal Safari in Warm Springs, GA
We joined members of our Sunday School class this past weekend at FDR State Park and had a wonderful time! We weren't up for tent camping with the kids yet, so we stayed in the cabin shown in this post. It was a nice set-up: fridge, a/c, shower, double beds, and a nice sized closet for Vince's pack and play. The kids loved playing on the front porch and Savannah had a blast helping Jeff find "fire sticks" for our campfire. We joined the group at their tent camping area and roasted hot dogs and made smores on Friday and Saturday nights. We spent Saturday at Calloway Gardens and the Wild Animal Safari. Upon returning to Macon, everyone slept for 2 hours!

Happy Easter!

We have had a busy weekend! Nana and Grandaddy came to visit late Friday night and left out this morning before Sunday School. They were able to enjoy the Northminster Presbyterian Easter Egg hunt on Saturday morning. Vince did gather some eggs for his basket, but he was mostly interested in throwing them and saying "uh-oh."

I hope to have some Easter Egg hunt pictures up later this week!

Vince's First Haircut

My friend, Christy, cut Vince's hair earlier in the week, and he wasn't thrilled. I was unable to get any "during" pictures of the milestone, but I did get a squinty-eyed Vince picture before and a few pictures afterwards. He sat in my lap and cried and carried on the entire time. I have a feeling that he will be the tantrum thrower!

Spring Break 2009

We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Florida for Spring Break! We left last Friday and drove to Port Charlotte to visit Jeff's grandfather. The kids loved playing to organ at his house and Savannah picked some oranges from the trees in the backyard. We all went to a Tampa Bay Rays Spring Training baseball game and that was a treat! Attention spans are still way too short, so we left before the game was really going. Actually, the 2nd inning.
After spending the weekend in Port Charlotte, we drove across the state to Orlando where we stayed until today. Jeff took Savannah to Animal Kingdom at Disney World, and she was so excited! We didn't tell her that she was going, so it was a HUGE surprise to her. They rode all of the rides that they wanted to, including the Mt. Everest roller coaster. Judging by the picture of Savannah, it was pretty scary. Vince had been feeling "under the weather" for about a week, but we thought it was only allergies from the pollen in Macon. When he started pulling on his ears, we took him to see a Nurse Practitioner and she said that he was getting an ear infection. After a few doses of Amoxicillin he was feeling great and back to his "old self."

The kids loved spending time with G-Mama, Honey and Uncle Harold, Hal and Mark, and Mary Beth and the cousins. Have a wonderful Easter!
